Talk about a daily commute with a view (see the photo below)!
Having returned from two weeks vacation last week I started a new job on Monday as Senior Web Designer/Developer at Webqem here in Sydney. It does mean a commute for me that I haven't had to do for a while, working from home does spoil you.
The trip does have it's benefits as I've chosen a route that includes a short ferry trip each way from Circular Quay to Neutral Bay which doesn't add considerable time and ends up feeling like a mini vacation each way.

I've recently delved into Flash video for a presentation and have a number of sample files and tip & tricks to share as a result, will start posting in the next couple of days but for now I've got a teaser for you.
Here's a sample application that allows you to capture images from a playing video and display them as snap shots.
In a court case that was brought on by Sony Computer Entertainment back in 2001, a bench of six judges of the Australian High Court held that mod-chips were legal and not, as Sony argued, among devices outlawed by the copyright act.
The interesting thing about this court case is that one of the arguments used was that region-coding was detrimental to consumer choice, and that "Sony's protection technology created artificial trade barriers between Australian and overseas games and DVD markets".
This ruling could be short lived due to changes to copyright being brought about by the Free Trade Agreement with the United States due to take effect in 2007.
Friday last week I spoke on video in Flash 8 at KiwiFlash2005 in Christchurch, New Zealand. While registration was required the conference was free it had good attendance and a good line up of speakers, both local and international with the most travelled coming from Venice, California.
I was able to see most of the speaker line up, Brian Chau from Macromedia Australia kicked the whole thing off with his usual enthusiastic style of presenting. Brian is well known here in Australia, he’s been busy recently travelling around Australia and New Zealand as part of the Studio 8 launch roadshow. Christchurch was the last city in that tour, Brian managed to make it seem as though it was his first.
Last week I spent a bit of time going over the documentation for the FLVPlayback component in preparation for a presentation on Flash video. I noticed that a lot of the sample code had references to FLVs hosted at helpexamples.com that you could use for testing and I got to wondering what that domain was all about.
While it's already been noted elsewhere that Eclipse 3.1.1 is now available with it's many bug fixes I realised that there's something new about the download this time, and please feel free to correct me on this one.
Checking out the Eclipse download section I noticed a torrent link was also now available: noice, unsusal, different.
A special thanks must go to the folk at ZoDAL for the borg caricature of me that you see on this blog.
One of these was created for each of the presenters at KiwiFlash2005, held last week in Christchurch, and Shek Yuen Ho at ZoDAL is to thank for their creation.
More thanks go to Ghada of ZoDAL who's given me permission to use this as part of my blog.
Welcome to the world of the once registered alien, for some of you I may be new – for many of you however this is where you’ll find my thoughts, ramblings and code snippets.
Why "registered alien", when joking with friends once about what each of us might title our autobiographies I suggested "I Was A Registered Alien" because I thought that it might grab attention and that back in 1987 when I lived in Japan for more than 6 months I had to carry a "Registered Alien" card – part of the process of living there for an extended period of time.
Who am I? Well I'm a user/developer/trainer of ColdFusion, Flash and Flex. I'm married and a proud father of two, based in Sydney, Australia.
While the blog may be new, you’ll find posts archived here that I made over the period that I was with RocketBoots.
